Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn
Birds of Prey is honestly the perfect breakup movie! It's the girl gang movie we've always wanted. It's funny, it's gruesome, it's chaotic and has got a sick soundtrack you'll have playing on shuffle in your ears for weeks.
But I think what made this movie so fantabulous was Margot Robbie's passion for the project and love for Harley. Margot first pitched the movie 5 years ago after she walked out on stage at Comic Con during the character reveal of Suicide Squad. And throughout the entirety of the film you can really see this is Margot's passion project. Fans of the comic books will really be able to see the level of research gone into the film by Margot and her team. An interesting facet to be on the look out for when you watch the movie - notice how Harley Quinn's narration and perspective of Gotham city differs to other characters in past DC films. For example, Joaquin Phoenix's Joker or Christian Bale's Batman view Gotham as a very dark, grim, corrupt city. Harley brings a whole new perspective on Gotham I think we needed to see.
Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn is out now in all Australian cinemas.
We Want To Be Better
Bianka Thompson and Annie Nolan have been in our ears in the podcasting world for over 2 years now. We thought they had discussed everything to the imagination from masturbation to pet sitting to veganism to tattoos. The whole concept of the show is for the two leading ladies to get better at something, educate themselves better and/or discuss their own personal experience with the subject.
But Season 9 of the show is different. As listeners we get a behind the scenes look at Bianka's toxic relationship with alcohol and how it's affected her relationship with her friends, family and partner. They have only released 2 episodes of the latest season but girls you have really created something special. Thank you both for being so open and honest.
Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey's latest book 'She Said' breaks down the investigation process and takedown of movie mogul Harvey Weinstein. The two investigative journalists wrote the historic New York Times piece 'Harvey Weinstein Paid Off Sexual Harassment Accusers for Decades' in October 2017. As we all know this article kicked off the #MeToo movement and the takedown of other powerful sexual predators including Kevin Spacey, Don Burke and Louis C.K.
Although 'She Said' is a non-fiction novel, it plays out like a Hollywood movie. It's gripping, enticing and gives you a great behind the scenes look at investigative journalism.
