She stepped off the cover of Oprah Magazine for the first time in its 20-year history to honour the life of Breonna Taylor.

Now, Oprah Winfrey continues to demand justice for the young Black woman who was shot dead during a police raid, by erecting 26 billboards across Breonna’s hometown of Louisville, Kentucky.

The media queen’s magazine is funding the billboards which features their September issue with Breonna’s image on it, created by 24-year-old artist Alexis Franklin.

Each one has a clear message: “Demand that the police involved in killing Breonna Taylor be arrested and charged.”

The billboards not only direct people to social justice organisation Until Freedom to encourage ways to take action, but also feature a quote from Ms Winfrey herself: “If you turn a blind eye to racism, you become an accomplice to it.”

Why 26 billboards?

“One for each year of her life” it says on The Oprah Magazine website.

“What I know for sure: We can’t be silent,” Ms Winfrey wrote in a powerful and heart-wrenching column earlier.

“We have to use whatever megaphone we have to cry for justice.”
